Wanna know what your watch is worth? Don't be vague.

It never ceases to amaze me how many people will send me emails and texts with blurry out of focus pictures of dirty watches with no description and then proceed to ask me how much I would pay for that watch.

Imagine trying to do that with a car. What kind of response would you expect from the dealer if you just sent him a picture of a blurry car in bad lighting with no other information? I’m guessing the car dealer would have a similar response to mine and ask them to send more pics and info before they even attempt to come up with a number.

I don’t know if people are just in a hurry or if they think that I have some sort of sixth sense where I can tell them exactly what watch they have at a glance. But I usually can’t. I have a hard time telling which Hublot you have without a pic of the case back. I need a pic of the papers or model number on your vintage sub to confirm that all the components look legit, etc…

So, I thought I would share an excellent example on how to reach out to a dealer about your watch.

I received the following inquiry through the FLÂNEUR contact page.

After receiving the inquiry, I called the owner and requested pictures of the watch. The owner sent me these.

Original Sales Receipt for Rolex 5513

These pictures enabled me to give the owner a fair and detailed estimate of what the watch was worth. By seeing the pictures of not only the watch, but the accessories and the original sales receipt I could be confident that this was a genuine Rolex in the same condition that it was described in.

Pictures like these make it extremely easy for myself and other dealers to do their jobs. Before reaching out to sell your watch, take good well-lit and in-focus pictures of it, and write a detailed description. If you don’t know something about your watch, that’s fine, just help us out by giving us all the information you can so that we can give you the best information.
